Book Review: New Moon

Synopsis

When the Cullens, including Bella’s beloved Edward, leave Forks rather than risk revealing that they are vampires, it’s almost too much for her to bear, but she finds solace in her friend Jacob until he is drawn into a cult and changes in terrible ways.

Comments

As usual for sequels, this book is darker and more intense. While I suggested that ‘Twilight’ might be okay for 12 year-olds, this book is not recommended for under 14 year-olds.

Girl is aggressor in trying to get boy to go further then he wants to, some intense kissing.

No actual drug or alcohol use by teens, but several references to drugs; someone got in trouble for selling meth, ‘need him like a drug’.

Bella cornered by a vampire who wants to kill her, tourists are gathered up for a vampire meal.

Severe depression when Edward leaves Bella, multiple references to suicide throughout the story.
