Synopsis

On New Year’s Eve, Cal is chased down the street by a crazed man with a deadly warning: They killed your father. They’ll kill you. You must survive the next 365 days! Now everyone is searching for Cal, the psycho kid who’s meant to have attacked his uncle and put his sister in a coma. He’s desperate to clear his name and protect his family, but he also has less than a year to solve an ancient family secret: the Ormond Singularity. And the closer he gets to the truth, the more dangerous his life becomes. He has 365 days. The threat is growing…

Comments

There is some social/family stuff to be aware of, but nothing significant for the intended age-range and likely down to age 12.  The publisher expects to release one book in the series every month in 2010.

Violence/Disturbing

Cal’s boat caught in a squall at sea, life vest doesn’t work correctly, sharks attack the boat and he has a flash of a near-drowning experience as a toddler.  Cal is distressed over his sister being hurt and she is in a coma. Cal handles his uncle’s gun.

Social/Family

Father died under suspicious circumstances, son recalls last days in hospice care with his dad. Cal meets a stranger in the park and is kidnapped and beaten up. Finds his uncle shot and his little sister unconscious. Cal is hunted by the police and hides in an abandoned house for days, a friend bringing him food and clothes on the sly. Cal’s family is about to lose their home because they can’t pay the mortgage.

Religion/Spiritual

Cal’s father leaves him pictures of an angel, which he found odd as his father was not ‘religious’ and ‘life was his religion’.
